For over 40 years, Clarendon Hall has been blessed to have the support of our community. This support has allowed us to carry out our mission of providing a quality education in a Christian environment and continue to keep tuition costs reasonable. Out of our over one million dollar operating budget, tuition represents only sixty percent of our income. All other fundraisers or donations make up the shortfall needed to meet our budget to go towards specific programs for academics, improvements, and athletics.
The moment you step on our campus you will see the evidence of the success of our Meeting The Challenge, A Capital Campaign. Thanks to those donors who continue to support this project. Our building and grounds are facilities we can be proud of compared to schools of our size.
However, it is clear that a strong annual donation program specifically for the school is the only way to continue to excel at providing a quality Christian education. The board recognizes that it is important to operate under a strict disciplined budget and equally important to ask our Saints families to partner with us by making a donation to the school each and every year. A Letter From Elaine:
When I walked on the campus of Clarendon Hall as a shy eighth grader in the fall of 1970, I never imagined that my journey would bring me back to Clarendon Hall. I remember my first day of school in Mrs, Miriam Gordin’s homeroom class and despite the heat on that August morning, we had air conditioning. I remember thinking how lucky I was to be a part of a wonderful and caring school. Teachers and staff knew you by name and made you not only feel welcome, but accountable for your actions and academics!
After graduating in 1975, I attended Central Carolina in Sumter, got married to my high school sweetheart (Leslie), moved to Pinewood and started a 16 year career in banking thanks to another Clarendon Hall teacher, Mrs. Norvelle Walker, who recommended me for the job. When lending became tough in the late 1990’s and having two sons attending Clarendon Hall, I jumped at the chance to go to work at my “Alma Mater”. I was hired in July 1997 as the school secretary by Mr. Miles Elliott, vacated only two years prior by the legendary school secretary, Mrs. Helen Richbourg. To my good fortune, the ever efficient “Miss Helen” along with Mrs. Edna Frances Rowe, had a yellow three-ring composition notebook with detailed instructions on Clarendon Hall’s policies and procedures. My journey continued as the school grew and I became the school office manager and later accounting officer.
In the spring of 2008, the headmaster and board asked me to serve as the director of programs, events, fundraising and development. To our fundraising efforts, an annual fund giving program was established in 2008 that maintains all the traditions of Clarendon Hall. As we continue to be blessed by the support of not only our founding families, but our current patrons, faculty, community, and alumni, I am certain now more than ever that Clarendon Hall is a special place. We have a proud heritage that our board and administration work hard to maintain.
This financial support through donations and remembrance giving all these years is the reason Clarendon Hall remains the school it is today. Last year’s annual fund donations allowed us to purchase new technology improvements for the school. This year our focus will be on more academic enhancements in our curriculum and library upgrades. You can be a part of our mission as we continue to provide excellence in education in a Christian environment.
If you would like more information on how you can join me in giving back to Clarendon Hall, please contact me by phone or email.
